14 October 2017 Mogadishu Bombings Campaign
In October 2017, Mogadishu was hit by the worst terrorist attack in the history of Somalia. Over 500 people died in the attack. We visited the victims at several hospitals, some of them were in a coma with their loved ones beside them. It was extremely heart-breaking to see young children as young as 3 affected by this horrific attack; what crimes did they commit to deserve this? For those who were awake, we spent time with them to get know their life stories, their dreams and how this attack has shaped them. Even though we have been collecting Somali stories since 2016, it was extremely humbling for us to listen to their inspiring accounts and share it with the world, giving us a glimpse of the lives that they used to lead prior to the attack. We also visited many families that were scattered on the outskirts of Mogadishu. These were families whose only breadwinner died in the attack. Fathers, sons, mothers and daughters – claimed by the attack whilst striving to feed their families. We raised £30,610 and provided critical emergency funds to the families affected by the ordeal.
We also invested in a fully equipped ambulance which we aptly named after the victims of the October attack. We handed the ambulance over to Amin Ambulance, the only free ambulance service in Mogadishu.
